Insurance Counseling Program
The Village, in conjunction with Senior Ministries Insurance Alliance, provides the residents and community members with a professional insurance counselor to help answer questions and provide information with regard to Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance, Investment Annuities, and other insurance products pertinent to seniors. SMIA is an alliance of non-profit retirement communities, established in 1989 to serve retirement communities. It is governed by an advisory board comprised of CEO’s of those retirement communities. Through this alliance, The Village provides a highly trained counselor to anyone in need of this type of service. There is no charge for insurance counseling.
Pastoral Care
The Village at Morrisons Cove was established by the Church of the Brethren in 1903 and sustains an ecumenical Christian ministry to people of all communions. The Village sets a high priority on meeting the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of our residents. A Coordinating Chaplaincy Council represented by pastors of various denominations from the area, residents, clinical staff, and the Chaplaincy staff review the spiritual and programmatic needs of our residents. They also plan worship, educational, and visitation schedules to meet these needs. A group of ministers and lay people (a total of six) provide one on one spiritual support to our residents, lead worship services, assist small prayer groups, plan annointing, communion, and memorial events. There is a weekly Sunday worship service provided by a guest congregation from the local area. In addition the Chaplain offers pastoral care to employees and family members of our residents.
Operated and made possible by the Auxiliary, the Gift Shop/Café is a fantastic place to pick up a gift or share a cup of coffee with a loved one. There is an assortment of fresh baked goods, a variety of sandwiches and snacks, a soup of the day, and a wide range of beverages. The gift and novelty section includes everything from special occasion cards to crafts and collectibles. Seasonal items are also available.
“Cut N Curl” is the on-site Beauty and Barber Shop. The shop is located in the main building and has flexible hours. Ladies can get their hair cut, curled, permed, colored, or set and dried. Barber services are offered for the men. Please call (814) 793-2104 and ask for the beauty shop to schedule an appointment.
The Library is operated on a self-service checkout. The daily newspaper, magazines, and a large assortment of books are available for residents’ enjoyment. Residents are welcome to read and relax within the library room if they choose to do so. The room is located in a quiet setting with minimal distractions.
Omega Bank offers services here on campus on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 12pm. Residents and staff can cash checks, make deposits, and make withdraws. The bank is located in the main building.
The on-site Daycare Center offers many opportunities to staff and residents of The Village. Reasy’s Tot Lot, a licensed Daycare Center, operates one of its two locations right here on campus at The Village. This allows for convenient and reliable child care solutions for Village staff, while providing intergenerational relationships for the residents. The Recreation Center located in Pleasant Hill Village is the perfect site to host a party, special event, or large gathering. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a coat room, private restrooms, a lounge/sitting area, along with a large open area for tables. This facility is available to any resident of The Village at Morrisons Cove. All that is required is a reservation and refundable deposit.
The Independent Living residents use this facility for many special events such as entertainment, dinners, seminars, speakers, and family gatherings.
